Private Wells
Wells are drilled into our many local area aquifers in order to gain access to water. Texas is covered in Aquifer formations!
Whether your water comes from a public water utility or a private well, it most likely is water sourced from underground aquifers in Texas!
San Antonio River-Basin Aquifers
There are three major aquifers located within the San Antonio River Basin: the Edwards Aquifer, the Carrizo-Wilcox Aquifer, and the Gulf Coast Aquifer. Of the three major aquifers located within the San Antonio River Basin, the Edwards Aquifer is both more porous and more permeable than either the Carrizo-Wilcox or the Gulf Coast aquifers.
Wells are typically drilled by an experienced fresh water well service company to proper depth to produce water in all seasons, especially drought, when the water table and aquifer levels can drop because of little or no replenishment from rains over a period of months or even years here in Central South Texas and heavy usage. A pump is used for water withdrawal. Central Texans who rely on privately owned wells are responsible for the quality of the water pumped from the well, which means they need their own water treatment systems. The EPA does not regulate or protect the Private Water users water quality! Private Well owners are their own last line of defense when it comes to the quality of the water they are consuming, irrigation or watering livestock with! We have seen Cattle die when water is not tested or it’s quality changed since last testing! Obviously, that means the water is not safe for human consumption either!
WATER TESTING
EPA Recommends Yearly Well Water testing
It is our professional recommendation and tha of the EPA, that initial testing be done on a new well which will determine degree of Hardness, Total Dissolved Solids (T.D.S.) levels, PH levels, Evidence of Iron, Sulfates, and Nitrates. These tests Texas Absolute Water Testing can do.
Next step and also highly recommended, is a full spectrum of test panels, performed from samples gathered at the well head, by a water testing laboratory to reveal precisely what else is in the water before used or consumed by humans, pets or livestock or for irrigation of food crops. We will assist with this step as well! This broad spectrum testing should be repeated every 1 years for safety as well water can and indeed, does change over time! It will reveal presence of E. Coli Bacteria, Total Coliform Bacteria, Chloride, Conductivity, Nitrate-N, Nitrite-N, Sulfates, Arsenic, Magnesium Calcium Hardness, Calcium/ICP, Iron, Copper, Lead, etc..
Once a proper determination has been arrived at regarding the elements that need to be dealt with, the experts here at Texas Absolute Water Testing and Solutions, will write the prescription for that specific well to treat and eliminate those elements or contaminants that could or would possibly be harmful to health.

10 Basic Water Tests

It all starts with a Water Test.
To help protect your family or business when making a major purchase that could require water treatment, step one should be to have your water tested. In today’s world, if you are on well water or city water, do not take the water’s quality for granted and trust that it is safe to drink.
Here are some basic tests that should be checked on a yearly basis:
- PH of water measure between 1 to 14. A neutral ph. of 7.6 is ideal.
- Hardness in water measured in grain per gallon. O grains is ideal
- Iron levels in both ferric and ferrous state measured in ppm. O is ideal
- Nitrates and nitrites in water. Required for FHA and VA loans
- Lead in the water. Some FHA and VA loans require this test
- Bacterial- T test. Required for FHA or VA loans (24 hr. incubation process)
- Total Dissolved Solids, measured in PPM. Sodium content in water (salt intrusion)
- Chlorine measured in PPM. Present in City water currently for disinfection
- Hydrogen Sulfide Gas measured in PPM. Must be tested at well for best results
- Tannins measured in PPM. Discolored water from rotten vegetation
These are just 10 water tests that should be considered! It is best to test the water at the source, as this is most accurate for water testing purposes. Municipalities treat with chemicals and can remove many of the problems. But, there are no guarantees made for safe consumption. It is always a good idea to have your water properly tested by a water treatment professional or certified State Laboratory.
